Disneyland!
This one single word brings up joy and excitement in my family. Last year in May we took the family to Disneyland. It was the first time for the kids - and the best part was that it was a surprise!
The kids thought we were going to Seattle to see where Ryan grew up. Seattle is in the completely opposite direction yet they still didn't catch on. We drove for two days (stopping in Nevada overnight) I really can’t believe we were able to keep the surprise. Actually Ryan is great at keeping surprises - I can't believe I was able to keep the surprise in. The kids didn’t figure it out until we brought them to a Disneyland Resort map and had them read it. I think my oldest was starting to figure it out - at first he thought we were at some Disney type event like Disney on Ice – he had no clue we were at Disneyland. The younger two were completely 100% surprised. Whenever a bus drove by or anything with Disney on it we pointed out something new in the opposite direction – so they were pretty clueless. I took video with my camera of the moment they found out. We had just finished driving for 6 hours so we were pretty tired and frumpy – but it is still my most favorite video. I hope you enjoy it as well :)
Where I party

We did this with our girls and it was the biggest fail. They had no idea we were going on vacation and we woke them up early and told them surprise we are going to Disneyland. They just kinda sat there and stared at us. Didn't get really surprised till hours later. Maybe it was too early. Glad yours came out better!!
ReplyDeleteConnie - that is too bad the surprise didn't work out for you. The kids new we were going on a trip. They thought we were going to visit the place where my husband grew up. We had been in the car for two days and I was still able to keep it a secret. :) The kids had no clue we were traveling in the total opposite direction. They were so surprised and a bit shocked. :)
DeleteSO cool! Someday when I have kids I would love to do this , surprise them and record it
ReplyDeleteThanks Stacie! It really was so fun to surprise them! It is a video I will always treasure.
DeleteThat's so fun! I love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lori!
DeleteOh my goodness, how exciting that must have felt for them! You're little girl was too cute about it all. Hope your vacation was *magical*!
ReplyDeleteLaura it was so exciting! I think they were a bit in disbelief - the whole trip was so magical and fun. Adison was able to meet all of the princesses she loved, it was amazing!
DeleteWhat a great video! I am the WORST about keeping surprises. :) Makes me want to go to Disney!
ReplyDeletegail
Thanks Gail! I am the worst with surprises as well - my husband begged and pleaded for me to try as hard as I could to keep quiet - and you know what, it was worth it. To see their reaction and excitement was awesome - I even teared up a bit. We all want to go back as well - Disney is a very magical place :)
DeleteHow fun! I would love to do that with my boys one day. Right now I am content with them thinking that Mickey lives on the tv. :) They don't even know about Disney World yet! (They're only 3 and 1.)
ReplyDeleteThanks Michele! Your boys would love it! I bet your 3 year old would get a kick out of Disneyland and Disney World already - its so magical!
DeleteSo sweet! I like how at the end... your husband tells them "okay, lets turn around and go home". LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!!
I know - I love that part! :)
DeleteSummer - that was so adorable. Your daughter's reaction is priceless!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carolyn - i just love my daughters reaction - she was so excited - she is such a precious little girl :)
DeleteOmigosh, I would LOVE to surprise my kids with a trip to Disney!! This is awesome! Seriously that reaction says it all!! I wish I was still a kid! I've got to start saving for a trip when the kids are tall enough to ride the rides and remember! :)
ReplyDeleteIt was seriously so fun to surprise them! I love Disney just as much as them - I am such a kid at heart and just love the magic of Disney. It was nice that all of my kids were old enough to ride all of the rides. Adison wasn't tall enough to ride the Indiana Jones ride and she was so sad about that. She is the most adventurous of the kids. You really need to plan a trip :)
DeleteSummer, that was just beyond awesome! Can't believe you two kept it a secret for so long! Their reactions were so fun to watch and the hugs from your little girl were the best!
ReplyDeleteThanks Steph! I was amazed at my secret keeping abilities :) I am glad you enjoyed the video!
ReplyDeleteThis is so fun!!! We still surprise our kids with trips up to Disney - even though they're teenagers, they still get super excited!! What a fun video!
ReplyDeleteThanks Beverly! You can never be to old for Disneyland, right :)
DeleteThat video is so wonderful - thanks for sharing it here! This will be a moment that not only you will cherish always, but as your kids get older - they will cherish it too! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura! You are right we will treasure this video forever - especially when they get older :)
