Surprise – You are in Disneyland!

Disneyland!

This one single word brings up joy and excitement in my family.  Last year in May we took the family to Disneyland.  It was the first time for the kids - and the best part was that it was a surprise!

The kids thought we were going to Seattle to see where Ryan grew up.  Seattle is in the completely opposite direction yet they still didn't catch on.  We drove for two days (stopping in Nevada overnight)  I really can’t believe we were able to keep the surprise.  Actually Ryan is great at keeping surprises - I can't believe I was able to keep the surprise in.  The kids didn’t figure it out until we brought them to a Disneyland Resort map and had them read it.  I think my oldest was starting to figure it out  - at first he thought we were at some Disney type event like Disney on Ice – he had no clue we were at Disneyland.  The younger two were completely 100% surprised.  Whenever a bus drove by or anything with Disney on it we pointed out something new in the opposite direction – so they were pretty clueless.  I took video with my camera of the moment they found out.  We had just finished driving for 6 hours so we were pretty tired and frumpy – but it is still my most favorite video.  I hope you enjoy it as well :)

  1. We did this with our girls and it was the biggest fail. They had no idea we were going on vacation and we woke them up early and told them surprise we are going to Disneyland. They just kinda sat there and stared at us. Didn't get really surprised till hours later. Maybe it was too early. Glad yours came out better!!

    1. Connie - that is too bad the surprise didn't work out for you. The kids new we were going on a trip. They thought we were going to visit the place where my husband grew up. We had been in the car for two days and I was still able to keep it a secret. :) The kids had no clue we were traveling in the total opposite direction. They were so surprised and a bit shocked. :)

    1. Thanks Gail! I am the worst with surprises as well - my husband begged and pleaded for me to try as hard as I could to keep quiet - and you know what, it was worth it. To see their reaction and excitement was awesome - I even teared up a bit. We all want to go back as well - Disney is a very magical place :)

  5. How fun! I would love to do that with my boys one day. Right now I am content with them thinking that Mickey lives on the tv. :) They don't even know about Disney World yet! (They're only 3 and 1.)

  8. Omigosh, I would LOVE to surprise my kids with a trip to Disney!! This is awesome! Seriously that reaction says it all!! I wish I was still a kid! I've got to start saving for a trip when the kids are tall enough to ride the rides and remember! :)

    1. It was seriously so fun to surprise them! I love Disney just as much as them - I am such a kid at heart and just love the magic of Disney. It was nice that all of my kids were old enough to ride all of the rides. Adison wasn't tall enough to ride the Indiana Jones ride and she was so sad about that. She is the most adventurous of the kids. You really need to plan a trip :)
