Hello everyone! Over the past week I have teemed up with some great bloggers and shared some of their Watermelon crafts and recipes, I hope you have enjoyed them! Well today I am excited to share my Watermelon craft – my “Sweet” Watermelon Trio! We love Watermelon at our house, especially during the summertime – so I just love to decorate with Watermelons this time of year. I think they turned out so cute!
Wood watermelons (I purchased mine at The Wood Connection)
Scrapbook paper in red, green and black
Paint in red, green and black
Letter Stickers (or cardstock/vinyl)
Let’s get started!
First I traced the main piece of the watermelon and seeds onto my scrapbook paper. I cut them out and then double checked that they fit.
Next up is painting – On the main watermelon pieces I painted the edges red and green depending on the piece. Then I painted the front bead board piece red and the edge of the seeds black.
Once the paint is dry I took some sandpaper to the bead board pieces for a little bit of distressing.
Now it is time to glue the paper down onto the wood. First I glued down the red piece, then the green piece. I usually use Mod Podge for gluing my paper down but I was told that wood glue works well for this as well (and is much cheaper). So this time around I used the wood glue and it worked great! I didn’t have any problems with the wood glue making the paper bubble and it dried so quickly.

Once your paper is glued on and dried (takes hardly any time to dry) I glued on the bead board front and seeds.
I asked my daughter why she loves watermelon and she said it is because they are sweet. So I thought that would be a fitting banner to add to the watermelons. To make the banner I just cut out triangles from the paper scraps. I made the red triangles slightly smaller then the green ones. Then I just used double sided tape to adhere the small triangle to the bigger triangle. You could use anything for the letters (cardstock, vinyl, rubons, stickers) – I used stickers because I have a ton I need to use up. I taped the triangles onto a black piece of embroidery floss. I think this “sweet” banner looks so cute on the watermelon!
Then last but not least I tied some adorable ribbon onto the watermelons – just a cute simple knot is perfect!
I am so excited to display these in my home this summer! Aren’t they cute?
